The 6th grade class took a field trip to Fort Funston to learn about some of the geological features of Northern California. Students were guided by a current parent who is the USGS National Innovation Center Director. At Fort Funston, students searched for fossils and made observations of the many deep-seated landslides along the coastal bluffs. Of particular interest with the recent earthquake in Humboldt County, students discussed the nearby San Andreas Fault. Students also noted through their explorations, the geologic history of Northern California recorded in the bluffs at Fort Funston.
