A highlight of the school year for students is the participation in academic and character-building retreats. Retreats take place in a safe, supportive learning environment and allow students to engage in hands on learning experiences outside the classroom as well as to bond with classmates.

As students move up the grades at Saint Monica School, they grow not only in their academic knowledge but also in their development as individuals. With our 7th grade class finishing the school year, they look forward to becoming leaders of their school community. To prepare for this responsibility, the 7th grade class will take part in a special retreat this weekend. The retreat is designed to teach students leadership skills and what it is to be a role model. Students will also participate in team building activities to enhance cohesiveness of their class.

Our 5th grade class is also on retreat at Caritas Creek. They are taking part in a 5-day/4-night immersive environmental education retreat as part of their science curriculum. Aligned with NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards), the program offers students exploration of the redwoods and coastal ecosystem using scientific inquiry. Students are encouraged to be inquisitive and develop new perspectives. Students also engage in team building activities to foster personal, social and spiritual development.Through these retreats, students become empowered to make courageous choices and develop an understanding of something greater than themselves.
